Emily Vikre has written several camp cookbooks, and New Camp Cookbook On the Trail: Easy-to-Pack Meals, Cocktails, and Snacks for Your Next Adventure
has recently been released. It includes meals to make while on the trail- hiking, backpacking, etc., and allows outdoorsy people who like to eat well to have good, fun meals without a lot of prep.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner with comments, a list of ingredients, and step-by-step instructions. They are easy to follow. The recipes call for easy to find ingredients, so there is no need to go to special stores to pick them up. The recipes are quite appealing, and are rustic and go well with the outdoors.

One helpful thing that is included is recipes for spice blends, as well as mixes that make it possible to just add a few ingredients to prepare the dishes, since most of the prep is already done.

I have several books by Vikre (they are excellent), and they all contain healthy-ish, outdoorsy recipes – crunchy granola, if you will – to keep up the energy while outdoors, but she also adds at least a full chapter on cocktails and other alcoholic drinks. This makes me laugh; who cares if you’re eating healthy if you’re drunk? The twelve steps might be in order here.
Vikre always includes beautiful, professional photographs, which make her books very nice. This one is no exception. Anyone who does a lot of camping, hiking, or spends a lot of time outdoors will want to pick up a copy of this fun cookbook.
